Support Groups:

The Michigan Opioid Partnership works with hospitals and jails across Michigan—critical intervention points for reaching and treating individuals with opioid use disorder. 

NorthCare Network manages specialty mental health and substance use disorder services and supports throughout the Upper Peninsula.

The Youth Mental Health Project coordinates the Parent Support Network, offering free, confidential, virtual support groups for caregivers concerned about their child’s mental health.

Suicide Prevention

Support Groups:

Anyone can struggle with thoughts of suicide. If you or someone you know is in emotional distress call or text the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential, 24/7 support. Simply call or text these three numbers 988. You may also call 1-800-273-8255.

You can access the Veteran’s Crisis Line by dialing 988 and then pressing 1.

Copper Shores Community Support & Outreach is a 24/7 crisis and outreach center for individuals throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Grief support group for survivors of suicide loss are offered in Ishpeming and in Marquette.

The State of Michigan provides a webpage detailing resources for suicide prevention.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration offers specialized toolkit resources for schools regarding mental health and suicide prevention. The After a Suicide: Toolkit for Schools aims to assists schools in implementing a coordinated response to the suicide death of a student and the Preventing Suicide toolkit, which assists high schools and school districts in designing and implementing strategies to prevent suicide and promote behavioral health.

West End Suicide Prevention created LIVE, which encourages individuals to LOVE (yourself), INCLUDE (others), VALUE (life) and ENGAGE (community).  The group distributes materials with the LIVE logo, some of which also include the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number and/or ways to recognize signs and symptoms of suicidal thoughts and how you can help someone in need.  If you would like to become a member of West End Suicide Prevention, or would like to received free LIVE materials, please contact .

The Northern Michigan Regional (NMRE) entity is one of ten Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs) in the state of Michigan to manage the behavioral health (mental health, intellectual disability and substance use disorder) services for people enrolled in Medicaid.

The Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health seeks to improve the health and well-being of Upper Peninsula residents and communities by developing collaborative partnerships that improve the access and availability of affordable, quality healthcare services.

The Upper Peninsula Health Plan provides health coverage for individuals enrolled in Medicaid, the Healthy Michigan Plan, MIChild, Children’s Special Health Care Services, MI Health Link, and Medicare Advantage.
