Special Initiatives and Projects

COVID-19 Needs
GLRC will continue to provide Outpatient Behavioral Health Services and Residential Treatment Programming at all of our locations throughout this time period. Our community support staff will stay engaged with clients to ensure that no one is disconnected from care during this critical period. We have implemented our COVID-19 mitigation plan and utilize universal precautions in all of our programs to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

In order to continue implementing safety precautions for an indefinite amount of time we are in need of the following:

• face masks
• cleaning supplies
• gloves
• gowns
• telehealth equipment (laptops, phones, tablets, etc.)
• Monetary donations will be used where they are most needed. This could be in the form of telehealth equipment, daily needs for individuals who may have to be isolated in the case of positive exposure to the virus, or supporting those in recovery housing who may be unemployed due to state closures of businesses.

If you are able to support us with either a monetary donation or any of the above items please contact or call 906-523-9688. We appreciate your kindness through these uncertain times.

Compassionate Care Fund

The Compassionate Care Fund was established in 2014 through a donation made in memory of a former client. The Fund serves individuals who are struggling with the costs of behavioral health services. This Fund reaches clients who are seeking mental health and substance abuse services, that are uninsured, under insured, not eligible for governmental or community funding or do not have the funds to pay for services themselves. The Compassionate Care Fund also helps extend care for individuals when funding has been depleted. It is GLRC’s hope that regardless of an individuals financial difficulties, we can provide community members with the services they need.

John Kivela Legacy Fund

The John Kivela Legacy Fund serves as a tribute to late state representative John Kivela and his passion for the communities he served. All donations to the John Kivela Legacy Fund are used to aid in behavioral health services across the Upper Peninsula, with input from the Kivela family. Through the John Kivela Legacy Fund, we are joining together to help more people struggling with addiction and other mental health issues throughout the Upper Peninsula survive and thrive. Giving to the John Kivela Legacy Fund is one way we can all honor John and help make the world a little better going forward.

Residential Funding Opportunities

These are some persistent needs for our four residential facilities.

Residential Courtesy Items: Our clients come from every conceivable circumstance and some of them enter our program with little more than the clothes that they have on. Our Residential Staff maintain a solid relationship with local thrift shops and charities. We do keep a stock of commonly needed items on hand whenever possible. Items include: toiletries (toilet paper, diapers, disposable razors, deodorant, tooth brushes etc.), batteries and lightly-used clothing.

Residential Nutrition: It is the responsibility of our Residential Services to provide proper nutrition for our clients. We work with local community food pantries and retailers in order to keep costs down without sacrificing quality meals for our clients, but we can always use non-perishable food items, access to community gardens and lightly-used kitchen utensils, cookware and place settings.

Residential Furniture: Our Residential Programs serve hundreds of individuals for weeks at a time each year. Our residential facilities are often in need of new or lightly used: bedroom furniture, living room furniture, lamps, mirrors, bedding, linens and office equipment and furniture.
